SaveTheChildren – A charity acting as a startup

No, it is not insulting ! On the contrary, i am very proud myself of being a donating member with SaveTheChildren.org : sponsoring childs, and donating away when a crisis occurs. Helps Karma.

I just really want to talk about SaveTheChildren. They have Twitter, Facebook, Opinion poll automated software, coupon buddy ! They have business intelligence reports that they display on their website and they use trendy cool words (Buzz, Tweet, etc.), lets not forget their use of Flickr and Youtube. I really appreciate the work done by these guys.

To sponsor a child, it looks a bit like a dating website, choosing age, country and various parameters, but of course with a security, to avoid the regular internet creeps (limited to 3 profiles view a day).

Also, many start-ups or other people have a Facebook / twitter account, but let’s face it : 11,000 people like savethechildren.org, and more than 300,000 people follow them on Twitter (@SaveTheChildren).
Mrs Miles’ team is really doing a good job. Of course, the design and content of the website are highly polished. The dream of every entrepreneur would be to have a similar team for a commercial business! I believe i do not have to talk about their offline strategy, you can see them mainly (at least in the UK) everywhere and they even have retail charity shops. (beware, Angry bird !)

To finish this note : On March 20 & 21 2012 is Save the Children’s 10th annual advocacy day – You can register from their website.
