Google Wear (watch)

After testing out Google Glass, I had to get myself a “Google watch”, which actually would replace my broken Mute Watch (the bracelet broke slowly, but surely.. and guess what, they do not make these any more).

Anyway, a few hundreds of pounds later. I did get a beautiful LG Watch (That I dub Google Watch), the installation was painless:

– Charging the watch
– Tapping to put on the watch, configuration very quick
– Installation of Android wear on my phone

It’s to be noted that unlike Google Glass, the watch needs to be connected in Bluetooth to your phone and doesn’t have Wi-Fi capabilities.

My first impression: It’s more stylish than the Mutewatch, even if it’s not a Rolex. The battery will not last more than a day and a half, which is a bit sad! This means the need to have a charger at home, and at the office.. This is the real setback of this technology.

Now, the good news for productivity :

– SMS on the watch
– Email on the watch
– Phone calls making small vibration to the watch
– GPS Navigation (through smart phone)
– Reminders, Calendar, etc.

It’s the perfect tool to work on the GO – you can reply by voice (if you do not have a terrible French accent like me), and most people are now amazed on how fast I reply to my emails.

Of course : There are a few cool utilities, such as InstantWeather, which gives you cloud and rain cover on the watch, based on your location. You get a Flappy bird close, and a very cool dungeon master style game (Which I love) Castle wear. Apart from that, you have a compass, some fitness activity (numbers of steps, goals, etc), notes with Keep from Google.

The best for the last, you can change the design of the watch itself, from literally dozens of skins. From classical, to nautical, with of course geeky.

It’s a very good buy – I bought one also for one of my product managers in Romania – hopefully he likes it.

I can’t wait to see how the “Apple watch” can beat it.. as it will be our early 2015. One I’d love to test is the stylish Moto 360 as well.

A new market is really emerging with real smart watches and I will be here to discover it.
