Quantum RNG

(saw that information on /.)

4,2,5,6,9,1 … Ok well these are not Quantum generated numbers ! The Australian National University (ANU) however has a very neat Quantum number generator ! They (simply) split a beam of light into two beams, and measure the power in each beam. As light is quantised, the light intensity in each beam is subject to fluctuations ! Now i don’t really understand the rest, but these fluctuations, due to the quantum vacuum, are a source of random numbers ! Fantastic, another way to have randomness, which cannot be predicted (like many other sources, that are not really predictable by humans nor their softwares !). Anyways. ANU provides a service where you can actually use their beam of lights, and generate your own numbers (yay). http://150.203.48.55/Matrix.php You can find it here.

Wait a minute.. Using a service to get random numbers for a secure application ? to mix a deck of cards in your blackjack application or get a number from 0 to 36 in your real money roulette ? Hmm.. ! Doesn’t seem that secure, so just enjoy it for fun – or buy yourself your own Quantum number generator.
